A glass pen, as the name suggests, has a glass nib and utilizes capillary action to supply ink. Invented in Japan in 1902 by wind chime craftsman Sasaki Teijiro, it quickly gained worldwide popularity due to its beauty and excellent writing experience.
Unlike regular dip pens, a glass pen features a groove on the nib where ink is drawn using capillary action, allowing ink to flow to the tip. With just one dip, you can write about the length of a postcard.
The glass nib provides an exceptionally smooth writing experience, thanks to its delicate structure. Compared to ballpoint pens, a glass pen offers a unique and pleasant writing feel.
Glass pens are user-friendly with vibrant color inks, adding to their appeal. Enjoy a variety of ink colors for creative expression.
Open the cap of the ink bottle and dip the pen vertically about 1/3 into the ink bottle. Slowly lift it, wait a moment, and excess ink will be drawn to the pen's groove through capillary action.
While there's no specific way to hold a glass pen, writing in a laid-back position allows you to fully enjoy its naturally comfortable writing feel. Rotating the pen while writing ensures efficient ink flow from the groove, allowing you to write many characters without smudging.
After use, rinse the pen nib with water and wipe off excess moisture with a soft cloth. If ink residue persists, try lukewarm water. Due to the delicate nature of the nib, store it in a dedicated case.
Indeed, a glass pen can write a considerable amount of text with just one ink dip. The glass nib retains ink using its groove, allowing for smooth writing. The writing experience is well-adjusted and surprisingly user-friendly.
Maintenance is straightforward; simply rinse with water after use and wipe it dry. While the nib is delicate, basic care is easily manageable.
Generally, glass pens are made from borosilicate glass and are not prone to breaking with regular use. However, some may use soft glass for artistic purposes, so caution is advised during purchase. In case of breakage, some manufacturers offer repair services, making it worth inquiring about.
Glass pens are special writing instruments that combine beauty and functionality. Understanding how to use and care for them enhances the enjoyment. Even if you're new to glass pens, you're likely to be captivated by their allure.
